New identity for the historic industry of Lecco
linked to iron working.
The old factory Oto Metallurgica Rusconi was founded at the end of the 19th century and is located on the banks of the Gerenzone stream which was cleverly exploited as a driving force by the many industries of Lecco linked to the processing of iron. The factory began production of wire rod derivatives: drawn-wire, nails, nets and small metal products.
The building stands over an area of about 2.000,00 square meters and, despite the series of interventions and expansions made in the post-war years, it remains one of the few prestigious buildings to safeguard, bearing witness to the extraordinary industrial development in Lecco that took roots along the valley of the Gerenzone stream.
Due to changes in production requirement of many companies in Lecco during the last decades, the historic industrial district has experienced the phenomenon of gradual and inexorable abandonment.
This has significantly changed the urban planning of the area, which is in search of a new identity today.
In this context the Oto Lab project has come to life, starting from the past, from the history and tradition of this place looking towards the future and towards restoring the territorial image on an aesthetic, cultural, economic and social level through an accurate urban regeneration intervention. Thus the Oto Lab laboratory space was born.
